What is Life Coaching?
The International Coaching Federation defines life coaching as “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential”.
What is the difference between psychotherapy and life coaching?
While there is definitely some overlap between psychotherapy and life coaching, one of the easiest distinctions to make is that psychotherapy is often focused on past events or current circumstances that are causing emotional pain, stress or duress (such as symptoms of depression and anxiety). These symptoms of depression and/or anxiety often interfere with your ability to function the way you want to in your day-to-day. When you engage in psychotherapy services, you are given a mental health diagnosis to help guide treatment and so that your insurance will cover the service. Life coaching is focused on the future and on overcoming barriers and self-limiting beliefs so that you can achieve your goals and create the life you desire. Because life coaching is not a therapeutic service, there is no mental health diagnosis and therefore it is not covered by insurance. Both psychotherapy and life coaching help you to make positive changes in your life.
Will my insurance cover Life Coaching?
No, Insurance companies do not reimburse for life coaching services because there is no mental heath diagnosis assigned to a client, which is a necessity when using insurance for psychotherapy services.
Can I start out doing Life Coaching with Lucinda at Unlimited You, LLC and then switch over to Psychotherapy if I feel like I need it?
No. Once Lucinda is your life coach, she cannot then become your psychotherapist as this would create a dual relationship. If during the course of life coaching it appears that you would benefit from psychotherapy services as well as or instead of life coaching, Lucinda will provide you with a list of at least three psychotherapists that you can choose from or you can seek one out on your own.

What should I do if I want to start psychotherapy but Unlimited You, LLC doesn’t take my insurance?
Unlimited You, LLC accepts Anthem and Medicaid (Husky) insurances. If you do not have either of those insurances, you have the option to pay out-of-pocket or you can utilize your out-of-network benefit through your insurance plan, if you have one. If you choose to utilize your out-of-network benefit, Lucinda will file the out-of-network claims to your insurance company on your behalf on the last day of each month.
